FROM THE GUNSMITH’S BENCH:

ERIK WINTER, WINDHAM WEAPONRY GUNSMITH

Gas tubes will stick in the gas block after a while and become difficult to remove.

If you are replacing a barrel or a gas tube and can’t get the tube out with just pliers, use a vice and a rubber or wooden mallet.

Take the gas tube roll pin out and turn the upper upside down and grip the length of the tube in the vice jaws.

Don’t clamp down so hard you crush the tube (if you are planning on reusing the tube). Just grasp enough so the entire length of the jaws are gripping the tube.

Then gently tap the end of the upper receiver until the tube breaks loose from the carbon buildup in the gas block.

Then you will be able to remove the tube with no d

culty.

WOMEN’S SHOOTING CLUB DATES

The Women’s Shooting Club at Windham Indoor Shooting Range is for women of every ability. Your instructor is Randee McDonald, and she will take the time to know every individual and structure the classes appropriately. Topics change every meeting, and typically involve 15-25 minutes of casual class time, then the remainder of the hour is live fire in the range. Randee fosters an atmosphere of encouragement, supporting experienced shooters on to the next level, as well as aiding beginners in nailing down the essential basics.
